CUL seeks a dynamic, innovative and collaborative individual for the newly created academic librarian position of Director, Business, Engineering and Entrepreneurship.

Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, the Director leads a collaborative team of 8.8 FTE in envisioning, marketing and delivering customized and creative business and engineering information services, resources and learning experiences. The incumbent works with the administrations of the S.C. Johnson College of Business, Engineering, and Cornell Tech to align library services and collections to their programs and curricula. The Director oversees day-to-day work at the Management Library, the Nestlé Library, and the Engineering. The incumbent coordinates library support to Entrepreneurship at Cornell and other entrepreneurship programs in the business and engineering programs.

The incumbent serves on CUL’s Library Directors Leadership Team, representing their unit and participating in strategic planning and decision-making. The Director also serves as Cornell’s representative for the Association of Business Library Directors (ABLD).

Director, Access Services, Cornell University Library (Ithaca, NY)

CUL seeks a dynamic and forward-thinking Director, Access Services. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, the Director will be responsible for system-wide leadership of Access Services.

The Director sets priorities, policies and direction for access to physical collections and access services (circulation, reserves, equipment lending, interlibrary services, offsite storage) and plans appropriate staffing patterns for current and new services. They collaborate with CUL departments including CUL-IT, Library Technical Services and Public Services and unit libraries on infrastructure planning, systems software and the provision of public computing.

The Director supervises the head of the Library Annex, CUL’s local offsite high-density storage facility. The Director will play an integral role in planning for the Annex facility in collaboration with key administrators.

The Director also supervises the head of Interlibrary Services. CUL belongs to consortia and organizations developing polices for shared lending and borrowing of collections. These include Ivy Plus, RapidILL, and SHARES. The Director, with senior administrators, develops plans for participation in these and other initiatives that address collective collection sharing strategies.

For all physical libraries except Law, they provide strategic direction for circulation, reserves, offsite storage, and Interlibrary Services as well as public computing. The Director serves on the Library Directors Leadership Team and works closely with unit directors to coordinate seamless user experience of access services and public computing.

The Director chairs the Access Services Coordination Team and is responsible for developing policies and services with the goal of providing clear, consistent, and high-quality user experience system-wide.

The Director leads a three-person leadership team responsible for charting the course of CUL’s total online presence, Cornell Library Online. The Director’s primary focus is on content strategy, with an IT lead responsible for infrastructure and a Communications lead responsible for branding and identity.

CUL is an Open Library Environment (OLE) partner and is engaged in the development and implementation of FOLIO, an open source library services platform. The Director will represent Access Services on the CUL FOLIO Implementation Team and oversee testing, training and implementation of functions relevant to access services. They are expected to work with Access Services, CUL-IT and Library Technical Services staff to develop and document workflows to integrate FOLIO into other CUL systems and practices, and coordinate system-wide access staff training when migration to FOLIO happens. The Director will monitor and make recommendations for future service and technology improvements.

Access Services Librarian, Roberts Wesleyan College (Rochester, NY)

Roberts Wesleyan College, located in Rochester, NY, invites applications for a full-time, 11-month Access Services Librarian, available January 1, 2019. This academic support faculty position is responsible to the Director of Library Services for the library’s Access Services area including the resource desk, interlibrary loan, course reserves, and stacks maintenance. Responsibilities include hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student workers and staff within the Access Services area; creation and maintenance of an atmosphere of excellent customer service; communication of important library services and events to the campus community; gathering and analysis of statistical data and reports relating to the use of library services; and the maintenance of policy notebooks, manuals, and online training resources for student workers. In addition, the Access Services Librarian will collaborate with the Systems Librarian to fully enable library software that impacts the Access Services area, including Alma, Primo, Ares, and ILLiad, as well as assist with the identification of new and emerging technologies aimed at improving and streamlining library workflows. The Access Services Librarian will serve as the liaison to the School of Education & Social Work and the School of Natural & Social Sciences, which includes participation in research desk coverage (may include evenings and weekends); information literacy instruction; and participation in campus-wide faculty responsibilities.

Qualifications: Requirements include a graduate degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program; a strong commitment to the integration of Christian faith and professional practice and a willingness to support and identify with the College’s Christian mission and identity; two years professional-level library work experience including personnel supervision, classroom instruction, and writing goals/objectives; experience with reference and circulation services is valuable. Experience with Alma or Voyager, ILLiad, Ares, and office software is valuable; a second graduate degree in a subject discipline is a plus.

Web Accessibility and Emerging Technology Librarian, Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY)

The Web Accessibility and Emerging Technology Librarian actively collaborates with library staff to create and implement accessible web-based library services including online tutorials, videos, podcasts, blogs, web/mobile applications and consults with librarians and staff on the development of web-based services. The incumbent develops, maintains, and/or administers the Libraries’ websites and various third-party web applications utilized across the Libraries.

The SpringShare LibApps (including LibGuides, LibCal, and LibWizard) is a specific example. He/she helps troubleshoot and resolve website and web application related issues including accessibility needs as reported by librarians, staff, and patrons. He/she creates workshops and/or online video tutorials to inform and train patrons and library staff on various web accessibility and emerging technologies as appropriate. This position’s collaboration with librarians and staff on accessibility and metadata management is especially important to the Libraries’ strategic plan and digital library program.

Required:

• MLS (ALA-accredited) or equivalent combination of education and experience

• At least one year of professional experience as a librarian

Preferred:

• Minimum of two years of professional experience providing reference or public services in an academic library or research setting

• Minimum of two years professional experience working with a Content Management System (Cascade and/or WordPress is desired)

• Minimum of two years professional experience evaluating and applying web accessibility standards to existing or new websites

• Experience developing and delivering technology related training sessions (online and/or classroom)

This position will be part of a business librarian team that works primarily with students and faculty of the Tuck School of Business, a top-10 ranked business school. Reporting to the Head of Research & Data Services, the person in this position will carry out a wide range of duties:

  • Provide timely and responsive information, research consulting, and data services in support of research, teaching, and learning
  • Offer targeted educational services such as workshops, orientations, and one-on-one instruction in a variety of settings

Assistant Librarian of Electronic Resources, SUNY Broome Community College (Binghamton, NY)

SUNY Broome Community College seeks an innovative and personable Electronic Resources Librarian.  The ideal candidate shall be energized by seeking the best way to organize and process our electronic collections to meet the needs of our students and faculty.  This is a 12-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Librarian.

The Electronic Resources Librarian works in collaboration with the reference staff, the Access Services and the Systems Librarian to ensure that our print and electronic collections are accurate and easily accessible to users.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of the library’s serials and electronic resources, including monitoring subscriptions, collecting usage statistics, arranging trials, and troubleshooting access problems; maintaining awareness of emerging technologies related to electronic resources and promoting electronic resources.  The Electronic Resources Librarian will implement and maintain electronic collections and services in Ex Libris Alma for delivery through the Primo discovery service.  This Librarian will also have collection development and liaison duties in assigned subject areas; and will participate in providing reference and library instruction.

A Masters’ degree from ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program required.  Additional graduate work in an appropriate field desirable.  Three years of professional library experience, or an appropriate combination of librarianship, relevant work experience, and scholarly activity.  Demonstrated experience supporting electronic resources, reference services, library instruction or post-secondary teaching experience, and collection development.  Strong analytical, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and flexibility in the workplace required.  Preference given to candidates with experience in managing electronic resources and/or services, compiling and analyzing database usage data and overlap analysis, familiarity with access management tools such as link resolvers and EZproxy, and experience working with Ex Libris Aleph and Ex Libris Alma.  Salary range is  $56,582 to $70,728.
