Reference Librarian, Faculty & Outreach Services, Law Library (Syracuse, NY)

The Syracuse University Law Library invites applications for a Reference Librarian, Faculty & Outreach Services, to provide reference and research support to College of Law faculty and to foster relationships with alumni and with the local bar generally.

The Reference Librarian, Faculty & Outreach Services, will collaborate with other law librarians and staff to develop initiatives that enhance the research experience of faculty and their student assistants, and will craft and implement programs that showcase Law Library collections and services to College of Law alumni and other local attorneys.

The Reference Librarian will design and deliver training materials and programs, both in person and virtually, to faculty, students, and alumni.

The Reference Librarian will provide classroom instruction at faculty request to enable law students to develop legal research proficiency in doctrinal and skills subjects, and will create Research Guides to support individual classes.

The Reference Librarian will develop the Law Library’s electronic and print collections in assigned subject areas and will serve as the library’s liaison to faculty who teach and do research on those subjects.

• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

• At least one year of academic law library experience.

• At least one year of legal reference experience.

• Demonstrated knowledge of legal information research tools and methods.

• Substantial experience with data organization and data management.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to write effectively for a wide variety of library users.

• High degree of professionalism.

• Ability to both work independently and to interact effectively with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and the public.

• Strong commitment to legal reference service and instruction in a complex educational environment.
