Assistant Catalog and Archives Librarian, Syracuse University Law Library

The Syracuse University Law Library invites applications for a Catalog & Archives Librarian, to provide all bibliographic access to the information contained in the Law Library’s physical and digital collections. The Catalog & Archives Librarian will collaborate with other law librarians and support staff to develop initiatives that enhance the research experience of College of Law faculty and students, and will develop workflows that maintain the unified library catalog in real time.

The Catalog & Archives Librarian will craft and implement programs to showcase Law Library collections and services to a wide range of Law Library users. The Catalog & Archives Librarian will oversee the Law Library’s archives and special collections by collecting, organizing, and creating finding aids for the collection, responding to research requests, and giving tours to alumni, professors, donors and prospective students.

• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• At least one year of academic law library experience.

• At least one year of law firm or other law-related experience.

• Substantial knowledge of national and international cataloging and classification standards, policies, practices, and tools, and experience with bibliographic utilities and integrated library management systems.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to write effectively for a wide variety of library users

• A high degree of professionalism

• Ability to both work independently and to interact effectively with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and the public.

• Group and individual training experience.
