Ship Librarian, SUNY Maritime College (Bronx, NY)

Job Description:
The Stephen B. Luce Library of SUNY Maritime College announces the position of Ship’s Librarian aboard the Training Ship EMPIRE STATE VI during the 2018 Summer Sea Term.  The Ship’s Librarian serves as the sole information professional and head of the library aboard the ship.  The ship’s library serves as the repository of information aboard the ship.  It contains a collection over 3,000 titles and computer terminals with access to academic electronic resources.
The ship’s librarian is expected to:
  • Provide reference service including reader’s advisory and other information queries from cadets, crew, and officers
  • Manage the library collection including circulation and cataloging
  • Remain in constant communication with the library ashore
  • Maintain and report daily statistics to the library ashore
  • Provide regular communication and blog updates to be disseminated to the college community
  • Create port guides to be disseminated to crew and students
  • Supervise cadet library assistants
  • Manage the showing of nightly films to the ship community

Systems Librarian, Warren Hunting Smith Library (Geneva, NY)

SUMMARY:
Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ Warren Hunting Smith Library seeks to fill the position of
Systems Librarian in its Collection Services Unit. The successful candidate will be a creative
and motivated individual with a strong commitment to exploring and facilitating the use of
technology in service to teaching and scholarship. This position will participate in a broad range
of library activities, including the assessment, development and coordination of library services;
web tools and tutorials; and the identification and selection of technologies that will contribute to
the richness of the Library’s services and collections. This position offers the unique opportunity
to join a team of librarians serving an engaged community in a collaborative environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Coordinate the maintenance of discovery systems and content (e.g. Alma, LibGuides,
etc.)
• Maintain access to the library systems; including management of user records, IDs, and
passwords.
• Integrate and maintain library systems with campus and consortia partners (e.g.
PeopleSoft, IDS, RapidILL, etc.)
• Facilitate reporting from various systems and the extraction and manipulation of data for
use by various systems.
• Provide support to staff in use/maintenance of deployed information services, and
maintain local documentation.
• Coordinate the ongoing assessment and evaluation of information systems.
• Participate in the identification, selection, design and implementation of new information
services.
• Act as a liaison for the Library with campus and consortia constituencies.
• Responsible for maintaining vendor relationships and contracts.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience:
• M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent via education and/or work
experience.
• Experience working with an integrated library system.
• Experience delivering digital services in an academic or comparable setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of database design, web authoring tools, structured markup and
common scripting languages.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, and stay current with technical
developments.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Experience:
• Familiarity with multiple OSs; and applicable system administration tasks.
• Familiarity with basic networking technologies/topologies.
• Demonstrated experience managing projects, and developing collaborative partnerships.
• Experience with Alma, Illiad and Springshare products.

SUMMARY:
The Librarian participates in the full range of unit responsibilities, including research desk service and
individual research consultation (with some evening and weekend rotation), information literacy
instruction, collection development, and liaison functions to academic departments and programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provision of research services, with participation in a night and weekend rotation
• Teaching both general and course-specific information literacy sessions
• Participation in the development and maintenance of the Library’s print and on-line guides
• Participation in a robust collection development scheme for the reference collection and other
assigned subject areas
• Serve as liaison to a select number of departments and programs
• May be asked to develop an area of specialization, depending on interests, expertise and unit

QUALIFICATIONS:
M.L.S. from A.L.A. accredited institution; demonstrated knowledge of information resources in all

Experience in an academic library preferred. Familiarity with Springshare’s suite of LibApps a plus.

Clinton Community College, a member of the State University of New York, is a progressive community college with a stunning location on the shores of Lake Champlain. The College plays a unique role in the local community and within the state by offering traditional and nontraditional students access to a variety of educational programs.

The Librarian/Systems and Electronic Services reports directly to the Library Director and is responsible for the management and maintenance of the library’s public resources and integrated systems.  The incumbent will also manage library’s public presence through its electronic resources and website content. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track, professional position.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Graduate degree from ALA-accredited library and information science program.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing integrated library systems and other library applications.
  • Experience in managing electronic resources and web development
  • Fluent in MS Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

Head of Collection Management, SUNY Geneseo (Geneseo, NY)

SUNY Geneseo’s Milne Library seeks an energetic, visionary, innovative, and accomplished professional for the position of Head of Collection Management at the Associate Librarian rank. This head will provide strategic vision, leadership, and supervision of day-to-day activities in collection management. This individual will be responsible for the oversight of acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, special collections and archives, materials processing, donations, and print and digital resources. This individual will play a key leadership role, serving on the library’s management team and contributing significantly to the mission of the library and the institution. The college is about to undertake a leading role in SUNY’s migration to a new library services platform. The Head of Collection Management will play a key role in leading Milne Library’s contributions to the system-wide migration effort.

Responsibilities

· Provide strategic vision, leadership, and supervision of day-to-day activities in Collection Management

· Lead a collaborative effort with library faculty and staff to establish and evaluate short and long terms goals and objectives to continuously develop Milne’s collection

· Formulate, develop, and administer the library’s collection development policies

· Supervise, train, and evaluate 2 FTE staff members

· Engage with library liaisons and other stakeholders to continuously evaluate the ways in which decisions regarding collection development are made and communicated

· Develop and implement new programs and strategies for shaping the library’s collections in all formats

· Manage collections budget, which includes orders and renewals for print and digital resources

· Coordinate the work of Collection Management with other library departments

· Serve on the Library Management Team

Required Qualifications

· Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent

· Minimum 5 years of professional library experience

· Experience managing a library collections budget

· Knowledge of cataloging principles, standards, practices and technologies

Preferred Qualifications

· 3 years of experience supervising library staff

· Demonstrated project management skills

· Experience in assessment and evaluation of library collections
